    1. Tata was started by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata as a trading company in 1868.  Later in 1874, Jamsetji established a textile mill in Nagpur - India’s textile hub. 

    2. Tata Steel (Formerly known as Tata Iron and Steel Company) was first established in 1907 in remote Sakchi. 

    3. One of the most successful companies under the Tata empire is TCS. TCS has over 606,331 employees. It was ranked among the Top 100 US brands, across all industries. 

    4. Tata Group has over 100 operating companies in India alone, of which 29 companies are publicly listed on the Indian Stock Exchange. 

    5 To date, Tata Group contributed to India’s growth story. In 2018, the Tata Group of companies contributed 4% of India’s GDP and paid 2.24% of total taxation worth Rs 47,195 crore. 


    6. Tata Group built India’s first indigenously developed Passenger Car.

    In the late 90s, foreign car companies overtook the car market. Tata was the first car manufacturing company, to launch one of their most successful indigenously developed Passenger Car “Tata Indica.” on Dec 30/1998. Within a week, Tata Motors received 115,000 orders. 

    Within a year, Indica became the number-one car in its segment. As of data on Aug 2008, more than 910,000 units had spawned close to 1.2 million vehicles. 


    7. The success of the sub-brand Fastrack under its flagship watch brand Titan.

    Fastrack started under the Titan watches in 1998.  The idea was to create watches for youth GenZ with modern/trendy looks. In 2005, it was relaunched as a separate brand.

    Today, Fastrack is offering wearables, eyeglasses, and jewelry under its brand. But you may surprise by the list of sub-brands owned by its parent brand Titan.

    They have been supplying armored trucks and combat-ready vehicles such as Defence Fire Tender SFC 709, and Defence Armored Safari & Defence Combat Support Platforms 8X8. 

    Not only limited to the ground, but the Tata group also has an arm for aerospace, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL). In 2022, TASL delivered the QRFV (Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles- Medium) to the Indian Army.

    10. Tata was behind India’s most affordable/smallest car “Tata Nano”

    Launched in 2008, Tata Nano was the world’s cheapest (affordable) car costing only 1 lakh. Eventually, it was stopped in 2019 from production. It has a  624cc petrol engine which produced 37bhp of power. 

    Despite being smaller than Maruti 800, Tata Nano won the title of the world’s cheapest car in the Guinness Book Of World Records.
